Silvia Pettem, a subscriber to this BLOG, turned me on to the movie Mystery Street. Watch the movie trailer here. I finally got around to watching it this weekend and loved it! From some of the dialog in the movie it seems pretty clear that the writers were inspired from the real case of Dr. Buck Ruxton in the small town of Moffat, Scotland in 1935. I highly recommend it for the entertainment value and a glimpse into 1950′s forensics. Thanks Silvia!

So glad you watched the movie, Tom. Glad you liked it. The trailer is fun to watch, too, but it doesn’t begin to show the state-of-the-art forensics of 1950. Truly worth buying, renting, borrowing, etc. Another great old “film noir” is James Stewart in the 1948 movie “Call Northside 777.” It shows and explains the use of a lie-detector machine of the era.
I watched this and it was excellent. Thanks for the recommendation. You weren’t kidding about it being a great forensics film – the whole movie revolves around forensics.
